Navigating the world as a Christian

I never realized how hard it could be to navigate the world once I was saved. In the beginning things are usually easy but when you live in this world long enough, it has a tendency to try and change you. Slowly, lying becomes a daily routine, anger, jealousy, selfishness the norm. Its just the way the world works which is so different from God’s kingdom which is built on sacrifice, the most important sacrifice of all time through Jesus Christ. God’s Kingdom is, guided by the fruits of the Holy Spirit that is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self control; yet in the world, faith is an idea of fables and love an unknown word in many men’s hearts.

This world thrives on pride, judging, selfishness, greed, in addition to that it rewards those who walk in line with its fruits. When you walk in the fruits of this world the further you get to God for the Lord searches men’s hearts (Proverbs 5:21 For your ways are in full view of the Lord and he examines all your paths). But the moment when you choose to surrender and obey God, it almost always feels like a bag of suffering was dumped at your door. Its because God commands us to do the opposite of what the world does and to stick to the narrow gate that few will walk through (Matthew 7:13-14).

13. “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only few find it.”

Matthew 7:13-14

I can honestly tell you that the narrow gate can get tough at times, for there are many troubles that you are bound to face when obeying God, from betrayal, insults, hatred etc. just as Jesus faced. Because of this many end up twisting the word of God to fit their situations to avoid facing the agonizing truth in their own mind. Sadly, because of this many end up deeper in sin and further from God that even the difference between right and wrong is hardly visible.

But this is a reminder to not to follow the wide road but to stick to God and His word, He will guide you through this world by His Spirit. God’s word has promised to provide for us and to make a way out for us when we are tempted and God through His Spirit will help us overcome all things despite our weaknesses. The truth is God’s word is alive till today and if many sought it they would find true freedom, freedom from sin and death, freedom that is not without pain and suffering but even in suffering we are assured that God will never leave us or forsake us. And that freedom is better than what this world can offer. We should focus on our end goal which is heaven and that is an assured promise a greater reward than anything anyone could ever receive from this world.

Can teach us to intercede for one another within the body of Christ. We can imagine, how it feels to go through loss, grief, injustice, betrayal, illnesses and various forms of pain. And this can be enough to lift someone else in prayer with love and concern in our hearts for those we pray for. Realising we don’t desire to see anyone go through what we have gone through, we keep them lifted in prayer.Doing our best not to keep intercession as an after thought but just as important as all our other prayers.

Allows us to fully focus on God which in turn transforms how we see ourselves. It allows us to truly see ourselves as Christ sees us not as the world tries to depict us. Not with the identity of the world but with the identity of God’s sons and daughters. Recognising that we are part of the Lord and we are born out of Him, out of His very breath and His perfect will. We are also assured that He truly thinks good thoughts for us and has set a beautiful plan for our lives.

God’s goodness is constant

Heres the thing God doesnt stop being good because our lives change or we suddenly face troubling situations for example losing your job or even losing someone close to you. Its easy during such times to question God’s goodness and wonder to yourself if He really was so good why did He allow such things to happen.

I doubt i can be able to answer you on God’s intention or why He does what He does. That is a mystery to me but i have learnt to be content without the answers because i can’t begin to understand God Himself which means His plans are beyond me.

There are also many situations i see people blaming God for things that are usually caused by the devil but the devil would rather you accuse God and come out guilty(thats why he is called the accuser of brethren Revelation 12:10). For example some diseases are caused by the devil and even yet our own sin. Other situations also occur from our own disobedience to God or even poor choices. So its upon you to seek the Holy Spirit for discernment on certain situations.

But one hard thing to remind yourself during such times is that God is still good. It is impossible to understand His goodness in our own human minds because that would mean thinking like God and thats close to impossible for even me to do so.

Instead this is when faith comes in. When all we need to do is trust that all the words He spoke about in the Bible and all that He spoke over your life is true. And inspite of our situations He will forever remain good. I am not trying to make a case for God cause the Bible already did that. It already showed all the ways God works things out for good of those who love Him. An example is the story of Joseph who had rough beginnings and ended up blessed beyond what anyone could ever imagine, and he’s just one example.

Imagine God is so good that He’s praying for you right now. And if you are still struggling to see His goodness then look to your past experiences and see how God has been good to you. Dont be quick to forget all the blessings you’ve received from God. Instead constantly remind yourself of this so that you will continue to sing praises to the Lord and even then get to experience joy despite your suffering.

On choosing Christ

Choice is something all human beings have been granted by God that they can choose to have faith or not to have faith to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree or not to eat it. And each choice has its own consequences. We have seen this from the very beginning of the world from the story of Adam and Eve, the story of choice and consequences.

And with this realisation, we can make the active choice today to walk away from a sinful life not by our power but through the power of the Holy Spirit. At the end of the day we need to recognize that the choice of life and death, of obedience over rebellion are in our own hands but the power to overcome such evil is in God’s hand through His Spirit. It is by His Spirit that the power of addictions, witchcraft, poverty and death are defeated but we must make a choice to walk away from this part of our lives so that we can see a transformation in our lives.

We need to know that we are called but we choose whether to follow or not to follow, whether to believe or not to believe in Jesus. So always keep that in mind when doubt creeps into your mind and the devil tries to bring you down. Remember why you made the choice to follow Christ despite the difficulties. Recall the bondage of death that once enslaved you and the promise of life through Jesus Christ that came to liberate you. This is just a reminder that we may not return back to our former lives instead we may continue to march foward with Jesus Christ in the direction He desires us to go.

So lets wake up daily and choose to lay down our lives, our desires, our goals and our whole being into God’s hands that His power and His leading may be more evident in our lives. That at the end of it all it shall not be by our might but by His power that we are transformed into new beings. Lets choose to follow and surrender to Jesus Christ. Remember to keep going and to never lose faith in Jesus Christ.

Walk in grace

Constantly fixing your eyes on Jesus and not on the distractions this world throws at you, not on your friends or family or where their journey is at instead turn fully to the Lord. Because once you lose that focus you will be vulnerable to the attacks of the evil one. So walk in grace constantly singing praises to the Lord and walking in obedience to His command this will ensure you are protected from the arrows of the enemy and it will keep your heart filled with peace and joy that only comes from the Lord and from spending time in His presence. Do not take for granted the moments you have here on earth instead commit your life to daily seek the Lord because as mankind we were created to worship so lets use our time to praise and honor God with our whole being because that is pleasing to the Lord.

Fix your eyes on the Lord

That your feet may be rooted to a firm ground, onto the rock of our salvation that even as the storms of life hit us we shall not be moved because our feet are planted on God and our eyes fixed onto Him. Just as Stephen did even as he endured persecution in the hands of men, he looked up to heaven and his gaze was fixed there that even the stones thrown at him did not shake him instead brought joy as he was reminded of the promise for eternal life in Christ Jesus. In his death he did not curse his persecutors but forgave them and called unto the Lord to receive his spirit. Even as Jesus did fix His eyes to the Father (John 11:28) we too should set our eyes on Him who has been seated in the throne of heaven and who still prays for us through all that we face (John 17). We shall not be moved, our faith shall not be shaken by worry, grief or turmoil because the Lord fights for us, He comforts us and promises to provide for our every need. So let us keep our eyes turned to Him in all things.

Be patient

You will not see or understand what the Lord is doing until the journey He’s taking you you through is over. Thats when you will look back and see the wonders God has done for you. Be patient even in suffering because at the end of it you will realise the lessons you have learnt and those will be more valuable than anything else you would have chased after outside of God’s will. Once its over you will thank and glorify Him for the work He began in you. He brings every good work to completion so allow Him today to work in you that at the end you will rejoice at the work He began in you.

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:6

And then you will be ready to bear fruit at the right time. You will realise that in time the fruits of the Spirit grow within you as you go along the journey, after a while you become more patient, more loving, more kind amd tender with others, more self controlled in your behavior and moral in your actions, more at peace even as troubles face you, even your faith begins to mature and you become even more firm. So learn to be patient on this journey of faith you are on.

On the Gospel of truth

If the gospel was not truth or if it needed to be changed to fit situations that best fit us then why did the disciples suffer for it till death. Those words were as truthful as they were written yet we have changed it so that we dont have to endure the burden of the calling we have as christians.

We have accomodated different faiths, beliefs and deceit so that we may not suffer. How weak can our faith be that a little suffering shall cause us to fall or stumble. Faith that has not endured fire will never grow. Your faith must undergo the fire that comes from the hard words of Jesus.

You must be willing to live out your faith in truth and if you truly believe in Jesus and His promise for eternal life, you must be willing to suffer for that faith even if it means losing your life for the sake of the truth that was brought down by our Lord so that mankind may be saved. Because all who lose their life for the sake of Christ shall gain it (Matthew 10:39).

Let us not change the word to fit our situations instead lets change ourselves that we may be able to live out the words of Christ. And then our faith shall grow and we shall mature as christians not walking around fearing anything but only having reverence for the Lord.

Let not a little hunger, a little thirst a little suffering here and there make us fall away from our faith instead allow suffering to strengthen your faith in the Lord. He is faithful let us too grow in faithfulness to Him.
